Teachers of differential equations courses may ask themselves how many of the techniques in the traditional course should be left to the computer and how many should be done by the students. Boyce argues that many of the techniques should be done using today's software and that allowing the computer to perform the manipulations leaves more time for conceptualization, exploration and higher-level problem solving.
